So much written and said about this already on the other site, but since I haven't updated this one in a while ... Haha.
Briefly, then - Dr Lecter knew and felt emotion when required, yet he channeled it RIGHT.
He wasn't the indiscriminate sort of "animalistic" predator that the guy in TX Chainsaw Massacre was. That guy killed when he was hungry and ate, and wasn't too particular about who or HOW it was done.
Dr Lecter is different. Each of his victims truly DESERVED it. And when they didn't, even his "pursuers" were spared at his own expense if he liked them. Clarise being the most glaring example of that, Barney as well. Neither was RUDE to him. Both RESPECTED him and did the right thing ultimately, counts for a lot. Even Vergers P.A. (or Doctor) was spared at the end of it all ... following which he literally cut his own hand off to preserve his freedom, the most important, and didn't mutilate Clarise after triggering her to the max in that regard. Man after my own heart. Classic scene where he literally as they say in Hindi "ate Krendler's brain, picked out the RIGHT PARTS) - and of course, fed him that too.
Jack the Ripper was exceedingly messy and despite being equally cannibalistic and even more brutal in a way, didn't really have finesse.
Plus he, like a certain Ben Gay, just "hated".
He hated all women, especially the prostitutes, now you could argue from a certain perspective the world's oldest profession is evil, but like Dr Lecter, I see it differently. Those women usually do it (not these days, but in general) out of NEED, and they are actually far more honest than the average woman you meet on the street, especially married ones that are grade A hypocrites and Nazis.

Dahmer was another charmer, hehe. But again, not really one that used his brain that much. To me, the great Ted Bundy was equally as much of a genius, but the irrational hate did him in.
Dr Lecter did the RIGHT thing during dispensing vigilante justice. Sorely required, plus most of all, he's like me, exactly IN the middle.
Could be a beautiful girl, guy, all of it!

And even the public service he did by eating non performing orchestra members (culture and arts are important!) ... if you look at it, his own dinner guests, hardly cannibals or killers admitted to him that the deceased was actually no loss to society and though it might sound horrible, his playing the symphony was equally so.
You might not like hearing all this, but its all fact. Real. Unlike some depicted in popular lore or movies, or at least the TX Chainsaw Massacre guy, Dr Lecter is very real.
Like with Bourne, yours truly etc, everything was PLANNED, nothing was random - there must be a POINT and reason for EVERYTHING. LOGIC!
Plus, NO serial killer I know literally controlled minds and events sitting in a cell like he did. I'm not quite in a cell and have no plans to end up in one since I do nothing illegal, however, I do the same thing mentally with people like Ben Gay, hopelessly addicted. Its real, mind control, and many documentaries have been published on such a thing.
